Union Pacific will
be honored Friday, February 25, 2005 by the National Association
of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) for its support
of public high school principals.
Union Pacific Chairman and CEO Dick Davidson will accept
the NASSP's Distinguished Service Award for "The Principals'
Partnership," a professional resource program for public
high school principals that Union Pacific launched in 2002.
The Principals' Partnership helps fulfill principals' leadership
needs through a number of opportunities, including research,
networking and workshops. For example, The Principals' Partnership
picks up the cost of private, one on one sessions between
private education consultants and principals to address specific
issues or needs. The Principals' Partnership also holds a
professional conference every year, free to participating
public high school principals.
More than 800 public high school
principals in key communities served by Union Pacific Railroad
participate in the program and Union Pacific's goal is to
have more than 1,000 principals from its 23-state service
territory enrolled by 2007. The Principals' Partnership is
available to public high school principals in Arizona, California,
Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada,
New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and
Wyoming.
"
We believe strong schools build strong communities, and to
that end we are proud to support the leadership of our high
schools, the principal," said Dick Davidson, chairman
and CEO of Union Pacific.
Cindy Rudrud, NASSP Board President, will present the award
to Davidson at the kickoff session of NASSP's annual conference
in San Francisco.
"
We are very pleased to recognize Union Pacific for the extraordinary
support they have given to school leaders over the years," said
Cindy Rudrud. "Today's public schools face tremendous
challenges that require significant community support, particularly
from the business sector. Union Pacific is just the type
of good corporate citizen we need to create strong schools."
Previous winners of the NASSP award include the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, and Junior Achievement.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals,
in existence since 1916, is the preeminent organization for
middle and high school principals across the country. The
mission of NASSP is to promote excellence in school leadership.
