Valley High School in Elk Grove Unified School District (Elk Grove, Calif.) was recently recognized
as a Beating the Odds School by the California Dropout Research Project.
Based on Academic Performance Index results and graduation rates, Valley
was identified as one out of six schools in California that were Beating
the Odds.
Valley's API score ranks in the top 20 percent of California schools with similar demographics.
"It is truly an honor to be selected as a Beating the Odds school", said Chris Evans, principal. We have been working extremely hard on increasing our API and graduation rate. It's wonderful to be able to provide our students with more opportunities to learn and excel.
As a result of their status as a Beating the Odds school, representatives from Valley High School were invited to testify Dec. 13, 2007, before the California State Select Senate Committee.
The California Dropout Research Project analyzes existing research and finds new research to inform policymakers and the larger public about the nature of — and effective solutions to — the dropout problem in California.
